Lee Kennedy Co. was selected to provide preconstruction
services as well as act as the general contractor for B.C.
High's largest construction project in the School's 140-year
history. Phase I of the project entailed a 63,000 s.f. addition
and some summer renovation work. The addition, located in
the campus' central quadrangle, creates desperately needed
square footage as well as links to the presently separated
campus buildings. The addition has become a hub for campus
life. A 5,000 s/f student commons atrium, a 650-seat cafeteria,
a guidance center, a bookstore and a campus ministry center
are all components of the new addition.
Furthermore, the addition houses 4 state-of-the-art science
labs; 18 additional classrooms -- all of which are equipped
with presentation systems, high speed data and multimedia
capability; 3 computer labs; new administrative offices and
an admissions suite.
Phase I also included the complete fit-up of
the existing Loyola Building’s third floor to allow
for the relocation of personnel and offices needed for the
interface of the
new building. All the work occurred while the second floor
residences and first floor offices remained open.
Phase I entailed the summertime fit-up of the existing Cushing
Building which houses the library, offices and classrooms.
Work was complete and the space ready for use at the start
of the school year in September.
Phase II entailed renovations to approximately 20,000 s.f.
of existing campus buildings to supplement the new construction
and range in scope from cosmetic upgrades for the more recent
buildings, to complete systems upgrades for the more antiquated
buildings. Some site work was included in the Phase as well.
During Phase II, 50% of the classrooms on the upper level
of the existing McElroy Building remained in full use during
construction. The lower lever of the building was completely
gutted and renovated.
Phase I had a duration of 16 months and Phase
II's duration was 3 months.
