The Riverview School
Middle and High School
Sandwich, MA
|
|
|

|
This special needs school's new middle school
building was designed and constructed with two main goals:
to meet the needs of the Riverview School's unique student
population and to fit comfortably with the aesthetically pleasing
site lines of Cape Cod's built environment. The school building
is a wooden structure built on a single level slab on grade.
The building's design surpasses all ADA requirements, allowing
for easy access inside and outside the building. A state-of-the-art
radiant heating system enclosed in the slab on grade was installed.
The system was chosen to provide for the maximum comfort of
the students and its efficient operation. A new sewage waste
management system was also installed to bring the school into
compliance with the updated standards of the EPA and the Massachusetts
Department of Environmental Protection. The system was designed
large enough for future tie-ins of the entire school facility
that continues to expand.
Upon completion of the middle school building,
Lee Kennedy Co. negotiated a general contract for the construction
of the new high school building. The high school is identical
to the middle school in footprint, MEP systems, and services
while it has a second story and handicap lifts.
