Renovation of this five-story dormitory, dating
back to the 1920's, involved the complete gut and fit up
of bathrooms, dorm suites and common areas. The hall received
new carpet, paint and lighting as well as mechanical, electrical
and plumbing upgrades throughout. Exterior improvements included
the installation of new windows and a new roof in addition
to pointing existing brick and refurbishing the dorm's stucco

South Hall and Dix Hall

The renovations to South Hall and Dix Hall
took place on a fast-track schedule of 10 weeks. Combined,
the two renovations cover approximately 45,000 square feet
and entailed the complete upgrade of electrical, telephone
and data, plumbing, and heating systems. New system installations
included fire protection and air conditioning with two chillers
placed on the roofs along with an air-handling unit. Minor
space changes occurred in the form of additional study/quiet
areas and kitchenettes and the reconfiguration of the residence
director apartments. Existing areas and student rooms received
architectural enhancements including new carpeting, tile,
and wall finishes. Dix Hall benefited from restroom upgrades
throughout and the replacement of concrete and masonry walls
with blue board and plaster in each room. Site work included
chilled water routing to South Hall for the new air conditioning
system as well as to Evans Hall for future use. The 110-ton
chiller was placed on the roof of Bartol Hall with routing
to the basement and underground. Two new 6-inch water mains
from the street provide support to the new fire protection
systems.
