Initial
work for the New England Historic Genealogical Society
Library consisted of renovations to the library's basement,
fourth, fifth and sixth floors. The remodeling of the
existing library space included selective demolition,
structural steel framing, reinforced concrete slabs and
infill, GWB partitions, doors, frames, hardware, storm
sash and all interior finishes. In addition, all existing
mechanical systems and electrical requirements including
emergency management systems were upgraded. This historically-significant
building now has increased useable space, improved security,
new technology, a conference center, as well as additional
storage for books and documents in a temperature--and
moisture--controlled environment that ensures the preservation
of antique books, genealogical records, and other historical
artifacts stored at the library.
Lee
Kennedy Company was later invited back, on a negotiated
basis, to perform $1,000,000 in renovations on the library's
first and second floors. Modifications on the second
floor consisted of creating a new conference area with
adjacent office space, as well as the addition of a
servant pantry for use during the library's catered
functions. Work on the first floor included remodeling
the reception area and performing selective demolition
to revise pedestrian traffic flow. The grand, two-story
rotunda, ornamented with exquisite oak paneling, was
remodeled using as much of the existing materials as
possible. Any new millwork installed was designed to
match the profile and finish of the existing wood decor.
Additionally, all electrical and mechanical systems
were upgraded inside this turn-of-the-century building.
