Facelift at 68 Beacon Street
Exterior construction is underway at the 68 Beacon
Street building, which is receiving façade repairs to restore
the building to its original turn-of-the-century luster. Boston
based general contractor, Lee Kennedy Co., Inc. and consulting engineer,
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger are performing the renovation. The
building, constructed in 1917, houses 16 residences.
This facade renovation involves the cleaning and repointing
of masonry, some of which will be removed in order to perform structural
repairs to the building. Structural repairs include the replacement
of corroded steel components and the cleaning and repairing of ornamental
iron. All four sides of the building's exterior will be refurbished
and the location will remain occupied until the project's completion
in November. Scaffolding was installed last week and will remain
up until the project is completed.
Lee Kennedy Co., Inc. will be covering the scaffolding
with green protective scrim mesh. In addition to the scrim, Lee
Kennedy Co. will be using equipment with vacuum attachments to minimize
dust. Assisting on the project will be the owner's consultant, Design
Technique and the building management company, Mediate Management.
