Middlebury College, The New Library
110 Storrs Avenue, Middlebury, VT
Lee Kennedy Co. performed preconstruction and construction services for the new 143,000 sf library comprised of a granite, limestone and marble exterior. Conventional stacks, group and individual study areas and a web-conference room were some of the many features designed to fit the classic, academic integrity of the college, while serving as an information center for tomorrow’s student. The focal point of the library is the large open rotunda from which one can see a full view of the library’s three floors as well as outdoors. A major portion of the work involved incorporating sustainable features and practices to maximize energy efficiency while providing state-of-the-art technological capabilities and a high-tech climate control system to protect the library’s collection.
