Hadley Apartments
653 Main Street, Worcester, MA
Lee Kennedy Co. provided preconstruction and construction management services for the renovation of this near century-old furniture store, which is a registered historic landmark. The five-story, 80,000 sf structure features a post and beam frame with a masonry façade. The build-out includes ground floor commercial space with the remaining four floors comprising 45 affordable apartment units, community meeting space and a management office. Renovations included all new MEP systems and fixtures including a new fire protection system. Modifications to elevators and stairs brought the building up to ADA compliance. The façades on two sides were preserved and the building benefited from repointing of masonry and reconstruction of storefront glazing to replicate original entries.
