Shaw’s Supermarket
Prudential Center, Boston, MA
This complicated, 12-month construction project resulted in a 50,000 sf supermarket in downtown Boston, situated partially over the existing Prudential Center garage and mainly over the Massachusetts Turnpike. Once the complex foundation work was complete, pre-cast concrete panels were erected along the perimeter of the building over a series of weekends as permitted by the city. The completed structure has a façade featuring curtain wall, granite, aluminum cornices, metal wall panels, canopies, awnings and boasts a commanding glass rotunda entry. The roof serves as a terrace for the adjacent Gloucester Building and includes a completely landscaped courtyard, consisting of planting beds with trees, brick paved walkways and other site improvements.
