Boston College – Merkert Chemistry Center
2609 Beacon Street, Chestnut Hill, MA
Boston College required substantial upgrades to the Merkert Chemistry Center building to expand the resources available to students. Lee Kennedy Co. was retained as the general contractor for this two-phase project that encompassed teaching and research labs which remained occupied during construction. Additional complex mechanical equipment and systems were installed to increase the efficiency of the scientific and educational research that is being done on campus. The project’s greatest challenge was completing the work without interruption to the chemistry building’s ongoing research. The MEP upgrades included a total refurbishment of existing air handling units and installation of a new cooling tower.
