The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University
Weld Hill Research and Administration Building
1300 Centre Street, Boston, MA

Lee Kennedy Co. is providing both preconstruction and construction for Harvard University’s Weld Hill Research and Administration Building which will support the Arboretum’s botanical research capabilities and will include 12 greenhouses, plant growth chambers, labs and support rooms, offices, and meeting rooms. The 43,500 sf building will house up to 48 researchers and assistants, as well as offices for the administration department.  Heating and cooling will be provided through a closed-loop, geothermal heat exchange system that will be constructed underground to the south of the building. Harvard is also seeking LEED certification as a “green building.”  After construction, the area will be restored to its existing landscape of meadow with scattered trees and will be available for neighbors to enjoy.
