New England Aquarium - Discovery Theater
Boston, MA
This soundproof, interactive theater was an interior fit-up on board the vessel “Discovery,” which is moored to the piers at the New England Aquarium. Curved drywall partitions were lined with rigid fiber insulation to contain all sound within the theater and then covered with faux finishes, including perforated steel panels, to create the impression of a navy vessel. A galvanized steel ramp and steel rails were added to complete the nautical appearance. The team also constructed the new interactive Unforgettable Boston Theater in existing space of the Boston Harbor Garage, which includes complex theater lighting and soundproofing, contained in a curved drywall space constructed in partnership with the Carpenters Apprenticeship Program.
