Preconstruction

  • Extensive 18-month preconstruction effort in concert with DCAM and the architect
  • Development of early release design procurement packages includign site infrastructure, foundation and structural steel
  • Significant design and specification reviews during Schematic Design and Design Development phases for coordination and constructibility purposes
  • Performed clash detection in Naviworks.
  • Provided added value option for redesign of the earth support system which reduced both time and cost
  • Identified alternative to the curtainwall and precast clip design that facilitated the start of exterior framing almost one month earlier than scheduled.

Project Highlights

  • Constructed on dense urban campus in close proximity to residence halls, classroom buildings and across the street from a residential neighborhood
  • Blasted and excavated 2,000 cubic yards of ledge – scheduled blast shots between classes for five weeks
  • Completed three overnight concrete pours of 1,000, 1,600 and 1,900 cubic yards each. The team poured 200 yards of concrete per hour. This required 190 total trucks coming and going every six minutes.
  • Utilized 900 tons of rebar in the mat slab
  • Full demolition of the existing library followed by construction of the new building
  • Fully coordinated in BIM
